The Hitman's Bodyguard (2017) - Movie Review

The Hitman's Bodyguard stars Samuel L. Jackson and Ryan Reynolds and is about Michael Bryce, a "triple A rated" bodyguard tasked to protect Hitman Convict Darius Kincaid. There is quite a bit of well known supporting cast in the movie but apart from Salma Hayek and Gary Oldman, not many were worth mentioning.

The movie was very self aware of it's typical run-of-the-mill plot and predictable ending which makes it slightly better than your usual comedy action. Apart from Samuel L. Jackson's comedy gold, the rest of the comedy was pretty cringe-worthy. Most notably from Ryan Reynolds. Reynolds is a good actor, but I think he's done with the genre that made him a star. His constant fart face comedy acting and over the top loud shouting doesn't work anymore. Salma Hayek was possibly the second thing that put me off, acting wise. Her character, much like Reynolds was slightly unbelievable in what was a pretty decent movie.

As for the movie, I have already mentioned it's predictability, but this was not an issue. The movie kept a steady pace throughout with a lot of action and some great one liners from Jackson. The movie hit it's high notes when the serious parts came and I thought those parts were decent.

As with most movies, there were a lot of plot holes but again, these could be overlooked due to the nature of the movie so we won't delve into those without giving some of the movie away.

Overall, I had fun with the movie and if you are a Samuel L. Jackson fan, I highly recommend it, even if it's just for the parts he calls people "Bitch". Those parts take me back to Pulp Fiction. "Does he look like a BITCH?"

I give The Hitman's Bodyguard - 3/5 Nards!
