IT is obliterating almost every unadjusted record there is for a horror movie and it is still only into its third week at the worldwide box office.
Sure, The Exorcist's unadjusted gross is roughly $1.7bn worldwide but this was in an age where some cinema chains were only showing 2 movies per day. These days, you have over 10 movies to choose from in a single cinema. Not to mention the fact that video piracy was almost unheard of back in the early 70s. When you factor all of this in, almost $500m in 2017 for a horror movies after just 18 days is pretty incredible.
Just for ticket comparisons sake, IT has sold around 29 million tickets in USA. The Exorcist sold 98 million from its 2 releases in 1973 and 2000 respectively.
'IT' should reach the $500m milestone within the next 3 days.
If you haven't seen 'IT' yet, go see it now! If you have already seen it, go see it again!
