Was Freddy Krueger Considered for 'IT' Movie?

Was Freddy Krueger Considered for 'IT' Movie? Well, the answer was actually YES. Andy Mushcietti was toying with the idea but eventually felt it would have been too distracting and forced due to the company ties with New Line.

Andy went on to say:

Obviously we considered that for a bit, but I wasn’t too interested in bringing Freddy Krueger into the mix,” Muschietti told the site. “I love the story and I love how Stephen King basically makes a portrait of childhood in the ’50s. He’s very genuine when he brings all the Universal Monsters to the repertoire of incarnation because that’s what kids were afraid of. It would be a natural path to try to recreate that in the ’80s, but I really wasn’t too crazy about bringing stuff like Freddy Krueger into the story. I thought it was a bit too meta with New Line involved in the film. It’s distracting and it didn’t feel right, for some reason
.”
I personally would have loved this concept, and I even have the perfect idea to incorporate it into Chapter 2:

So we see in the mini series the losers all enjoying a movie at the cinema when they encounter Henry Bowers and the gang. After this Richie gets his fear of the Wolf Man. Now we all know that A Nightmare on Elm Street was playing in their local cinema. So it would be good to see a flashback scene when they are kids again and they all enjoy a trip to the cinema, to see Freddy Krueger. We could then fast forward a few days and see Richie (or anyone) encountering Pennywise and taking the form of the dream demon!

What do you think? Too distracting? Or a bit of harmless teasing?
