Thor: Ragnarok (2017) - Movie Review

I recently done a video review for this movie. If you would like to watch that, click the video below:

Thor: Ragnarok turns the Thor series on it's head in the sense of the tone of the movie. Sure, the first 2 movies were somewhat lighthearted at some points, but the new movie goes FULL 'Guardians of the Galaxy'.

Now this isn't to say it's not it's own movie. The comedy in this movie is very natural and flows very well. It didn't seem forced like Guardians of the Galaxy vol.2.

On to the introduction of the new cast members. Cate Blanchett as Hela. WOW! Everytime she appeared on screen, I couldn't help but admire the beauty! For a 47 year old, she looks incredible. Her portrayal of the lead villain was easily the best since Loki in The Avengers but I felt her role was very limited in terms of screen time. I feel she could have had more screen time. For those who don't know who she really is in the movie, I will keep a secret for you.

Hulk plays a big role in the movie, but not as big as the trailers would make you believe. It is far from a Planet Hulk movie. But that is not a bad thing. It is a Thor movie afterall.

The biggest surprise for me was Korg, played by director Taika Waititi. He stole the show in every scene he appeared. He was again, naturally funny and softly spoken. I don't read comic books so I have no idea if this is how he is portrayed in the comics. Regardless, I am looking forward to seeing more of Korg in the future.

For me, the action fell short in the last third of the movie. That doesn't mean there wasn't any. I just felt they gave us most of the action in the first and second acts and toned it down in the last.

Overall, I had a lot of fun with Thor: Ragnarok and is definitely a step up from Thor and Thor: The Dark World. It looks to be a new and fresh look at what the Marvel Cinematic Universe will look. And I am down for that.

Be sure to stay behind for the mid cred scene which sets up another Marvel movie and also the very end credit scene which is just a bit of light hearted comedy. Also look out for 3 stars in the movie that play cameo roles!

I give Thor: Ragnarok - B
